Hendthighelthini (Kannada)
Reviewer: Srikanth Srinivasa
Film-makers have always nursed a fascination for titles starting with Hendthi and so it was that we had a series of films with such titles. Director Dinesh Babu has capitalised on this famed title. His earlier films Hendthigehelbedi, Laali and Amruthavarshini were all major hits. He does live up to expectations because he keeps in mind the fact that family crowds would queue up to see such films.
Jayaram (Vishnuvardhan) plays the role of a hen-pecked husband to Radha (Suhasini). Though they are very much in love with each other, Jayaram as seen in the Ananth Nag-starrer Hendthigehelbedi, is always found flirting with women at his office and outside, thus antagonising his dear wife. The couple are childless and Radha suffers from bouts of hysteria whenever she is reminded of her inability to have a child. Though the director has cleverly managed to put Radha`s suffering on the backburner, the whole story revolves around her helplessness.
Enter Raghava (Kashi) and Deepthi (Vanishree). They keep close tabs on Jayaram`s growing interest in the female staff at his office. Raghava is essentially a prankster who helps Jayaram play his pranks. Raghava is made to escort Jayaram to office and back so that he could report the goings- on to Radha.
Time is now ripe for the adoption of a child. As per the doctor`s recommendations, Jayaram and Raghava hit upon an idea to adopt a child from an orphanage and declare that the child is actually his friend`s daughter for fear of his wife turning hysterical again. While Jayaram and Kashi come home with the child, to their surprise they find another child at home, with a similar identity. They decide to keep the child that was brought from the orphanage with Seeta (Tara), a servant-maid.
What eventually unfolds is the drama of how the actual friend arrives and to Radha`s utter dismay, finds out that the child is not Jayaram`s friend`s daughter. Jayaram and Kashi are in a dilemma. They try their best to establish the true identity of the child.
Can Jayaram and Radha find out who the child is? Does Radha accept the child as her own? Does Raghava succeed in his plan to hoodwink the women at home, forms the rest of the story.
It is a delight to watch Vishnuvardhan in a such a role. Vishnu should concentrate more on taking up such meaningful and down-to-earth roles. Suhasini excels in her role with her effortless acting. However, it is in Kashi that the Kannada film industry has discovered a good comedian. Vanishree is good. Jyothi and Pavithra Lokesh lend colour to the film. Ramakrishna is however, wasted.
Dinesh Babu has captured some picturesque locations in and around
Mysore well. Another family entertainer from Dinesh Babu!
