AT THE THEATRES
NAANU NANNA HENDATHIRU (Kannada)
Reviewer: Srikanth Srinivasa
With remakes ruling the roost in Kannada cinema, one need not be surprised that this is yet another one from the king of remakes, Ravichandran! Of course, even though he is neither the producer nor the director of this film, his influence on the end-product is showing and quite evident. This film is supposed to be a remake of the film made in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. If it was Pandiarajan`s film in Tamil, it was Intlo Illalu Vantintlo Priyaralu, (starring Venkatesh, Soundarya and Vineeta) in Telugu, it was Gharwali Baharwali starring Anil Kapoor, Raveena Tandon and Rambha, in Hindi which was recently made.
The story is about Sriram (Ravichandran) who is happily married to Seetha (Soundarya). As the couple long for a child, Sriram`s father is eager to see his son married for the second time as Seetha fails to satisfy his maternal instincts of being a grandfather. Sriram is unrelenting as he does not accept the idea of a second marriage. Meanwhile, on a visit to Nepal, he meets Manisha (Prema), a Nepali girl and under unusual circumstances gets married to her. Even as Seetha seeks to adopt a child as she cannot conceive, Manisha comes down to Bangalore and gives birth to a child before offering the child for adoption to Seetha and that too without letting her know that it is the same child that Manisha has given birth to.
Sriram`s father who smells a rat in his son Sriram`s frequent visits to Nepal finally gets to the bottom of the truth and sympathises with his second daughter-in-law and brings her home. Sriram is caught in a dilemma on whether to declare Manisha as his wife and the child as her own child or to keep away the truth from Seetha. How Sriram resolves this row remains the rest of the story.
Though Ravichandran has improved his acting performance from his earlier films, he definitely needs to invest more time on improving his acting faculties rather on making a foray into music direction.
Soundarya has done justice to her role by more than negating the dharna that producer Rockline Venkatesh had staged in front of her house demanding that her commitment be met at all costs. Prema has performed equally well and has put in a lot of life into the proceedings. Doddanna is adequate. Kashi as the comedian is a treat to watch and is quite hilarious.
Director V S Reddy seems to be ghost directed by Ravichandran. Seetharam`s camerawork is excellent. Music is defintely a casualty without Hamsalekha, which is the result of Ravichandran`s over indulgence in this department. Except the title song which is quite enjoyable other songs are passable
A entertaining movie sans music!
