What is Matadaana all about?
Matadaana deals with the changing system of family values
and politics. It is not a period film but it is set
in the early 1970s when corruption, socialism were redefined
as the necessary evils of Indian democracy. I have not
tried to justify the compulsions of the Indian polity
which saw the institutionalisation of corruption in
public life and how it became inevitable. The moral
stigma attached to corruption had slowly vanished and
we started seeing rationalisation for corruption.
